Clef Club launches its 75th Season
• Formed in 1947, Clef Club aims to provide opportunities for Auckland singers and instrumentalists, particularly those starting out on their musical careers, to gain valuable performance experience with a sympathetic and supportive audience. We also support mature “late starters” and more experienced performers wanting additional audience exposure.
• Also welcome are our many non-performing music-lovers, who make up the audiences at our monthly concerts.
Club activities:
• Although described as a classical music club, we aim, in our concerts, to provide our audiences with a wide range of musical pleasures. We have eleven concerts per year, each with a theme — perhaps a particular genre or composer, or a central idea around which our performers are able to assemble their programmes of music.
• Generally, each concert comprises 2-3 items from each of eight or nine of our performing members, although sometimes we have a one-item-per-performer evening to give everyone an opportunity to perform.
• An interval and a great suppertime at the end of the evening both provide opportunities to mingle and chat.
Sponsorship Programme:
• Clef Club sponsors several instrumental classes in the West Auckland Performing Arts Competitions
• Clef Club also organises and sponsors the Ronald Dellow Memorial Vocal Competition for young singers aged 17-28 years. This occurs annually in August.
Membership Applications/Auditions:
• Non-performers may join the Clef Club as Associate Members. (You are welcome to begin by coming along to concerts as a non-subscribing visitor, so that you can get a feeling for what the Club offers.)
• To become a Performing Member you are required to audition by performing two contrasting pieces for the audition committee. (Before auditioning, you may find it useful to attend a few concerts as a non-subscribing visitor).
• To find out more about the repertoire and required standard for auditioning, or to obtain a Membership Application form, please contact our President (see below)
